Eating Green

I have been doing a lot of research lately about what we eat and where our food is coming from and have decided it is time to make some changes in our family's diet.  So the first step we have taken is participating in a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program.  We have started with http://localfoodstop.com but there are quite a few others in the area to try out as well.  We got our first batch of fresh organic produce today!  The girls were excited and I was excited for them to be able to eat food that was grown locally and pesticide free!  Our first order had sweet potatoes, apples, pears, green beans, green leaf lettuce and potatoes.  The girls were eating the green beans right from the bag!  Next up...buying a deep freezer to hold our grass-fed beef.  Yum!

My husband is so awesome!  The dining room table I liked at Pottery Barn was over $1700 (no chairs, just the table) which is completely out of our table budget.  But, we found some plans online to make the same table and Sam has started building it for me!  It is going to look so good!  Here is what we got so far. The legs and frame for the top are done.
He hand chiseled out these parts to make this piece of wood go through.
Although these boards are not very pretty now, once they are cleaned up and sanded a bit, they will be our table top.  It is wood Sam got from a friend that used to be on a barn.
If everything goes as planned, when the table is finished we are hoping it looks a little something like this!

Tennis Tot

I had no idea  a 3-year-old could take tennis lessons, but apparently they can!  One of Hannah's preschool friends was taking lessons and we decided to join in on the fun!  Today was Hannah's first lesson and she did great.  She has her own racket and got to play on tot-sized tennis courts.  She hit the ball a bunch of times!

A very, very sad thing happened at our house the other day.  Reagan's Wubbanub, her most prized possession in the whole world, finally got a hole in it.  She chomped right through the pacifier attached at the end.  Of course, this is a choking hazard, so we had to cut the pacifier off the end.  We figured she could just love on the little giraffe stuffed animal instead of using the pacifier.  She didn't really even seemed phased by this at all.  After we gave it back to her she stared at it for a minute and then just stuck the giraffe in her mouth and started sucking on it like a pacifier.  So gross.  She is almost two, time to just get rid of all the pacifiers I guess.  She has been a little sad at bedtime but otherwise is taking the loss okay!

Christmas

We had a fabulous Christmas this year!  The best part was that I got cancelled from work and got to stay home on Christmas eve with the family!  We went to church and then came home and spent a relaxing Christmas eve and Christmas day at the house just enjoying being together and playing with all the new toys.  The girls loved all their gifts and Reagan and Hannah both did a great job this year getting everything opened by themselves.  Daddy got to spend the whole week between Christmas and New Year's off with us too!

Bye-bye baby mullet

We decided that it had gotten to the point that it was just looking ridiculous.  I am talking about Reagan's hair, a bad baby mullet.  We waited a LONG time to give Hannah her first haircut, but I don't ever remember hers looking so long in the back and yet so short in front.  Anyways, we decided to do the cut before our Christmas pictures.  I had all intentions of doing it myself but Reagan was just so wiggly and I didn't want to be responsible for messing it up, so Sam kindly took over.  He did a great job!  We only had 1 little cutting mishap which I will take the blame for due to poor communication on my part!  In the end it all looked okay!
Here are the before pictures.  She kept holding the back of her hair like she didn't want us to cut it!

 Daddy hard at work.

The finished product.  The sweet little curls in the back are gone, but it looks SO much better!  Our little baby is getting so big!

Preschool Christmas Fun

On the last day of preschool before Christmas break, Sam and I were invited to the school for their Christmas program.  Both girls were signing in the program and were super cute!  Before the show we joined Reagan in her classroom for her Christmas party.  She is the littlest and youngest one in the class but seemed to get along well with the other kids and be having a great time.  We started out with snacks...

Then Daddy and Reagan made a Christmas ornament together.

Reagan made this shirt in a her class a few days prior to this.  Super cute little reindeer made from her hand and foot prints.  Of course, she took one of the googly eyes off pretty quickly but it was still cute!

After the Christmas party we were off to the show.  This was the best picture I had were you could see both of them.  Reagan is in the first row and Hannah is in the third with the black dress on.  Hannah is shorter than the other kids so it was hard to see her in most of the pictures.  They did a great job singing for all of us and the little ones in Reagan's class were cute!  Reagan was waving at us through almost the whole show!
